Ridding Your Home of Roaches without Using Chemicals

Business Blog

Sharing your home with cockroaches can be a dangerous venture as these common household pests often carry disease and can cause damage to your appliances and other personal property. However, for many people, the thought of using harsh chemicals to rid their home of these pests can be an equally dangerous idea. Thankfully, there are some all-natural pest control options available to help you rid your home of roaches without the need to use harsh pesticides.

Send Roaches Running with the Power of Catnip

While the scent of catnip has no real impact of people, it is enough to drive a cockroach mad. Consequently, this all-natural substance is ideal for use as a roach repellent.

In order to send roaches running with the power of catnip, you will need to begin by filling several cloth satchels with catnip and placing them in areas where roaches typically congregate. For instance, you will want to stick a catnip sack in the back of your cupboards and behind major appliances.

Next, it will be time to brew a bit of catnip tea. This can be done by placing some catnip in the bottom of a small pot and filling the pot with just enough water to cover the layer of catnip. Mix the catnip and water together and then bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Once you have achieved a full rolling boil, remove the tea from the heat and allow to cool. Place the cooled tea into a spray bottle. This catnip tea can now be used to coat baseboards and other hard surfaces.

Get Down and Dirty with Some Diatomaceous Earth

If you are looking for a all-natural way to not only repel, but to actually kill the roaches in your home, it may be time to get down and dirty with a bit of diatomaceous earth.

Diatomaceous earth is a completely harmless substance for people. In fact, it is often used in the decorating of aquariums and as an additive in many building materials in order to provide texture. However, this all-natural substance is not so harmless for cockroaches. This is because the sharp edges of each grain can cut through the exoskeleton of a roach and cause them to quickly begin dehydrating. This process will eventually end in death.

While diatomaceous earth will effectively kill the roaches in your home, this process will not be instantaneous. In fact, you may see a temporary increase in roach activity as the dying pests desperately seek out a water source in order to keep them alive. However, within a few weeks, you will see a dramatic decrease in the roach activity in your home until the infestation eventually dies out all together.

A Final Thought

While completely safe, even all-natural pest control methods can often be time-consuming and a bit complex to implement. If you find that you are not getting the results that you were hoping for, consider seeking out the services of a professional exterminator who offers green pest control services. This will allow you to still enjoy completely safe pest control methods, while also allowing you to enjoy the reliable results that come along with reliable pest control services.

Storage Facilities: Finding the Right One

For a brief time, I found myself between houses. This came about when I sold my old one but the home I was having built was not quite ready. Since the buyers wanted in, I had to place most of my belongings in a self-storage facility. Fortunately, I found one that had everything that I needed. The facility had around the clock security and units that were the right size for my needs. There was even air conditioning to keep my stored items safe from the heat. If you need storage space for a short time, there are specific features you want. Stick with me and you will know what questions to ask before you make any type of commitment to a storage company.
