3 Types Of Shallow Well Pumps

Business Blog

Private wells supply potable water to thousands of households across the country. To access water stores deep beneath the surface of the ground, all water wells need to be equipped with a pump.

The location of underground aquifers can vary based on location. You will need to ensure that you are investing in the right pump if you want your well to perform efficiently over time.

Here are three well pump options you can choose from if you have a shallow well on your property.

1. Jet Pumps

Many jet pumps available on the market today are designed to be compatible with shallow water wells.

A jet pump relies on suction to move liquids from one place to another. When used in a shallow well, a jet pump can consistently and efficiently move water over an extended period.

Homeowners are often excited about jet pumps because these pumps can be housed outside of the well itself. Having the pump offset from the well site provides easier access to the pump when repairs and routine maintenance are required.

2. Centrifugal Pumps

Another common type of shallow well pump is a centrifugal pump. Centrifugal pumps are very simple machines. They rely on the kinetic energy created by their motors to generate the energy needed to move liquids from one place to another.

Homeowners typically install centrifugal pumps when they want to minimize the amount of maintenance their well system requires. Because centrifugal pumps are simple in their design, they have few moving parts that can potentially break down.

The water moved by a centrifugal pump remains completely separate from the pump's motor, which can eliminate problems with contamination.

3. Convertible Jet Pumps

The third most common type of pump used in shallow water wells is a convertible jet pump.

These pumps operate similarly to traditional jet pumps, but they are designed to have a much wider depth capacity. This unique feature allows homeowners to easily adjust the settings on their convertible jet pumps to accommodate fluctuating water tables.

A convertible jet pump's primary body is housed outside the well, but a special submersible jet ejector assembly can be lowered into the well. This ejector assembly can then be raised or lowered as water levels in the well change, allowing for a reliable and consistent supply of fresh water at all times.

Storage Facilities: Finding the Right One

For a brief time, I found myself between houses. This came about when I sold my old one but the home I was having built was not quite ready. Since the buyers wanted in, I had to place most of my belongings in a self-storage facility. Fortunately, I found one that had everything that I needed. The facility had around the clock security and units that were the right size for my needs. There was even air conditioning to keep my stored items safe from the heat. If you need storage space for a short time, there are specific features you want. Stick with me and you will know what questions to ask before you make any type of commitment to a storage company.
